Pretty Painted Apple Plate

Materials:

• White porcelain plate
• Small white porcelain bowl
• Graphite tracing paper
• Pencil
• Paint brushes
• Small sponge
• Porcelain paint in red and green (I used Pebeo brand paint I found in my local craft store)
CAUTION:
CHECK TO MAKE SURE PAINT IS SAFE FOR FOOD—some paints may not be used for items you intend to use with food (like plates)

• An apple

Step 1: (The paint instructions recommend wiping the plate first with rubbing alcohol to help paint adhere better—I didn’t do this, but it is probably a good idea). Place graphite tracing paper on plate and (graphite side down) draw an apple. The image will appear on the plate—don’t worry if you need to redraw, the graphite will come off during baking. I drew the apple free-hand, but you can also find a picture of an apple and layer it over the graphite paper so that when you trace over the lines, the image will appear on the plate. After you’ve drawn your apple, move the paper to another part of the plate and trace over again. This will insure that all of your apples are identical.

Step 2: Using the paint brush, fill in the picture with paint. (If you make a mistake, you can wash off the paint using the sponge and warm water)

Step 3: Follow directions for your paint to seal. For Pebeo, I had to allow the paint to dry for 24 hours. Then I placed the plate and bowl in a cold oven and turned the oven to 300 degrees F. Once the oven indicated it reached 300 degrees, I allowed the plate and bowl to bake for 30 minutes more. Then I turned off the oven and allowed the items to cool IN THE OVEN. Once cool, I removed.

So pretty—this would make even Snow White want to take another bite!
