Spring-time Menorah

Need a little spring-time in the midst of winter? Add some birds and bees to your Chanukah table. This project was actually thought of last spring! I was wandering around my local craft store and saw the cutest little birds and insects. Then I found little flower pots. “Hmmmmm”, I wondered. “What can I make out of these?” A menorah! After months of sitting in the bag, I was ready to put it together. So easy and so much fun (and so cute!) So, the lesson is…be creative—a trip to the craft store can spark lots of ideas!

Materials:

• Plank of wood
• 8 small flower pots (unfinished wood pieces)
• 1 slightly larger flower pot
• 4 “fences”
• various insects and birds
• green acrylic paint
• terra cotta colored acrylic paint
• white acrylic paint
• wood
• glue glue gun and sticks
• Aluminum foil
• candles

Step 1:
Paint wood plant green (remember to paint sides for finished look)
Paint flower pots terra cotta
Paint fences white

Step 2: Using wood glue, glue larger pot in center of plank. Glue four smaller pots on either side (8 total). Glue fences (standing upright) to back of plank.

Step 3: Using glue gun, glue birds and insects around pots and on fences (be careful where you position on fence—remember that burning candles will be melting in pots). Play around with positioning before you glue!

Step 4: Wrap ends of candles in small square of aluminum foil. Place in pots. (The foil helps keep the candle upright and protects the wood from the flame).

Close up:

Happy Chanukah!
