Choosing your Invitations

Seven months and counting, and you realize that it’s time to select your Bar/Bat Mitzvah invitation! Between soccer practice, carpools, client calls and PTA meetings, you need to find some quality time to meet with an invitation consultant. Here are a few tips to make the process somewhat easier.

First, to find a reputable consultant, ask friends who they worked with for their invitations; personal experience is the best advice. Second, speak with your child before the meeting to set some limits…the process can be overwhelming when given too many choices. Third, when you arrive for your first meeting, be ready to provide the following: number of guests, color scheme or theme, synagogue and party times and addresses, Hebrew name written out in Hebrew (check your child’s bris or naming certificate), and a budget. This basic information can save you time when the consultant is selecting books for you to review. Fourth, ask for a written price quote so there are no surprises when you are ready to place an order. Last, but certainly not least, remember that this Mitzvah celebration is about your child and should reflect his/her personality.

Tip: if you and your child are still miles apart on an invitation design, consider printing something fun and festive for his/her friends and pick an invitation more tasteful for your guests…..compromise can get you back on schedule!
